![]() ![]() Preproduction designs are given numerical revisions. VS RE: Revision History, when a parts is given a new number KENAT (Mechanical) 6 Aug 14 15:34 ![]() ![]() All drawings start at rev 1 level.(actually its a bit more complicated than that) What do others do? On another note When a part is first created, what "revision" would the drawing be on? Is a new drawing a revision 1 drawing - so that when it gets revised, it becomes a revision 2 drawing? Or is a new drawing considered a revision "0" drawing - and after the first revision it becomes a revision 1 drawing? Other companies just simply do not worry about it? I know the change details could potentially save us a lot of head-scratching down the road. Where would I put the details about what has changed? Would I just fill in the revision block as a rev 0? (we use numerical revision designations, not letters). ![]() So now I have a new part number for basically an "old" part that has a lot of history. Therefore in accordance with our Technical Data System it must get a new number. It has now been significantly revised in such a way that the form, fit & function have changed. I have a part that has been used for long time. Learn more about the difference between FAIR and FAI.I encountered an issue today and I'm wondering how other places handle this. FAI, or First Article Inspection, validates your manufacturing process. What is the difference between FAIR and FAI?Ī FAIR, or First Article Inspection Report, is the documentation you provide to your customer as evidence of your First Article Inspection. It is the output of an FAI, First Article Inspection, which is a set of actions that validate a manufacturing process. A partial or Delta FAI is required when:Ī change in design potentially affects form, fit, or functionĪ change in manufacturing source, process, inspection method, location of manufacture, tooling, or materialĪ change to numerical control programs or translation to another media potentially affects form, fit, or functionĪ FAIR is a First Article Inspection Report. Learn more about when a First Article Inspection is required.Ī Delta FAI, or partial FAI, is done when there is a change in the manufacturing process. Items to be checked by the FAI are wide and varied and may include distances between edges, positions of holes, diameters and shapes of holes, weight, density, stiffness, color or surface finish. An FAI report utilizes the dimensional properties of a production part in comparison to design specifications. When is a first article inspection required?Ī F irst Article Inspection ( FAI ) is an official authentication method for a manufacturing process. ![]()
